Live-In Caregiver
C11 Self Employed
Canada's Caregiver program provides an excellent pathway for individuals seeking to attain permanent residency in Canada.
This program is tailored for foreign nationals with experience in caring for either children or adults requiring support in their homes, particularly those with disabilities or elderly individuals.
To be eligible, applicants must possess a job offer from a Canadian employer. After accumulating two years of experience with a work permit in Canada, individuals become eligible to apply for permanent residence.
Applicants may explore the Home Child Care Provider Pilot or Home Support Worker Pilot to apply for permanent residence, provided they meet the eligibility criteria and have a job offer in either of these occupations.
Under these pilots, successful applicants receive an open work permit, which is occupation-restricted. Importantly, a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is not required. This work permit enables individuals to gain the necessary work experience required for permanent residence eligibility.
Eligibility factors include having sufficient work experience, meeting language proficiency requirements, fulfilling educational prerequisites, being admissible to Canada, and planning to reside outside the province of Quebec.
Work experience mandates a minimum of 24 months of full-time employment in Canada within the 36 months preceding the application. Depending on the chosen pilot, the work experience must be in either the Home Child Care Provider (NOC 4411) or Home Support Worker (NOC 4412) category.
Language proficiency is evaluated using the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) for English and Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadien (NCLC) for French, with a minimum requirement of CLB 5 in English or NCLC 5 in French for all four language skills on the test you'll take.
Education requirements stipulate a completed post-secondary education credential of at least one year in Canada. If lacking a Canadian education credential, foreign education credentials must undergo assessment to demonstrate equivalence to a completed Canadian post-secondary education credential of at least one year.
